designing + creating objects of desire since 2000
the verellen story started in antwerp – an old world city famous for modern design – “a centuries old city…the spiritual capital of just about everything that makes life more beautiful” (well said, Elle Decor). tom + sabine verellen took the best of the place – its vaunted style, its confident, natural blending of the old + the new (think rubens + van dyck; dries van noten + axel vervoodt), its reverance for the planet earth – and emigrated their concept, their “edgy yet sophisticated belgian style” + their family to high point, north carolina.
high point is ‘where it all happens’ – it’s an area loaded with talent, where the knowledge + craft of fine furniture making is at its best. tom + sabine assembled a group of creative, gifted + passionate people to join the verellen team.
the design – it’s timeless, it’s sculptural, it’s modern, it works in traditional rooms + untraditional spaces. it’s not often you can use these words in conjunction: but you can with verellen: sophisticated, luxurious, casual, zen-like. even better are these 2 words: gorgeous + comfortable.
the process – a visit to the verellen manufacturing facility quickly eliminates the words “factory”, “manufacturing” or “production” from your mind. it is a wonderful space of ‘personal involvement’, it’s individuals or small teams crafting a chair or a sofa; one-piece-at-a-time. and the finish work – stunning! verellen has fashion industry dressmakers working on slipcovers (for the perfect fit!)
the materials – 8-way hand tied frames made from fsc-certified hardwood, recycled metal coils, recycled packaging, soy-based foam cushioned, doweled joinery, organic linens + cottons. verellen keeps the good earth in mind throughout the design + construction process.
all of this – the origins, the styling, the craftsmanship, the pride – you can see it and you can FEEL it in every verellen piece.
conceived in belgium. perfected in america.
VERELLEN @ ARTEFACT Home|Garden
since our inception in 2011 (the year we ‘dreamed up ARTEFACT’ and the year we opened) – we have been Verellen acolytes. maureen first visited tom + sabine in june 2011 – we knew we just ‘had to have this line’ – maureen came back even more convinced. it’s the perfect boston, belmont, wellesley, manhattan, nantucket, martha’s vineyard, stowe vermont, winchester, concord, san francisco, lincoln, manchester-by-the-sea collection. our pieces arrived in september 2011 – we opened our doors in november and we have never had a 2nd thought about our choice!
the response has been spectacular – clients who ‘have a Verellen’ always come back for more. our large cool + sophisticated clientele of europeans love the look; we have outfitted center door colonials, super contemporary homes and industrial downtown lofts – we have shipped to the vineyard, nantucket, even the yellowstone club – and our clients up in the SF-bay area? well, they love their Verellens too!
each season maureen + sue travel to the Verellen Showroom in High Point NC (by the way, it’s known as the most beautiful showroom in High Point). we walk the floor with our colleagues from Verellen – we personally sit in each piece, take notes about comfort, style, “how it sits”, why it will work for our customers – and we look at all of the new fabric + finish offerings. we keep copious notes – we will tell you (honestly) what we think.
how to get a ‘Verellen’? we generally have 15 to 20 pieces of Verellen on the floor – our intention is to keep a variety of seating options available to be ‘test driven’. in addition we have a great library of photos, fabric samples, tear sheets…and of course, our “copious notes”. come visit the shop or email us with the styles, shapes + sizes you are looking for. we will do our best to put together a list of options for you. important to remember: most Verellen sofas are available in 72″, 86″, 98″ and 110″ width and 2 depths – and custom sizing is available. looking for a sectional? Verellen has chaise + fullback sectionals – and ottomans, tables, poufs, dining tables….and a big chair collection….and barstools (for the ever popular ‘island’) and office chairs…
