Press Release: Introducing Artefact Home | Garden

Introducing

ARTEFACT Home I Garden

Belmont’s new design shop is both elegant and organic –

In November 2011, two intrepid sisters – Maureen and Sue Walsh – transformed a
defunct automobile showroom into Artefact Home|Garden – an oasis of
laid-back glamour and greater Boston’s most sublime new design shop.

Artefact Home|Garden offers unique furnishings, lighting, table and barware, garden
ornaments, textiles and quirky, but oh-so-practical objects, juxtaposing sophisticated
design with unconventional style in an airy loft-like location. With exciting lines such
as Verellen, Montes Doggett, Joe Cariati, Pennoyer & Newman, Jeff Jones Home
and Airedelsur as well as works from the ateliers of emerging designers and artisans,
Artefact Home|Garden blurs the distinction between interior and exterior spaces and is
a must-visit for those with a love of great design.

“At Artefact we create a balance of opposites,” states Maureen Walsh. “From the
glamorous sweeping curves of the furniture collection to the strong industrial lines of the
conveyor belt chandeliers; the formal elegance of the Royal Crown Planter cast from
a 19th century French zinc pot to the rough hewn wood table lamps of Jeff Jones; the
rococo detail in the custom welded console to the casual sophistication of the pine and
alpaca silver trays from Argentina – every piece commands your attention, every object
stands on its own.” Walsh continues, “The reason we chose to offer Verellen is because
of its flair of integrating opposites; its ‘classic with a modern twist’ Verellen is also an
eco-friendly manufacturer, sourcing the most sustainable materials available. FSC
certified lumber, components made from organic, recycled and/or reclaimed materials
are all a Verellen standard.”
In fact Tom Verellen offers this about his furniture, “Verellen’s signature couture styling
gives each piece a timeless beauty, designed with relevance from one generation
to the next. Local artisans in a North Carolina workshop handcraft the upholstery.
The attention to detail is credited to the men and women who give their knowledge,
experience and artistry to every piece they make.” (Verellen’s catalogue/Tom Verellen).
“Aesthetically enduring and carefully crafted, Verellen blends an Atelier spirit with the
highest standards in upholstery.”
