Meet ‘the ladies’ of South Street Linen

When I was living in Portland I was an avid reader of Maine Home + Design magazine. I loved everything about the publication – topics, photos, layout…even the paper it is printed on. One day I noticed the South Street Linen logo… the rest is history. Maureen and I visited ‘the ladies’ of South Street Linen in their studio in the fall of 2011. We met, we talked, we laughed (a lot) and we bought their fantastic hand block printed linen napkins and table runners.

They have been soul mates for over 10 years and share a love of textiles, especially linen. Mary Ruth is a minimalist, Jane, a lover of things bold and colorful. (Lynn feels strongly both ways.)

A year ago these mid career artists started applying their particular sensibilities to making hand stitched and block printed linen scarves. They fell in love with linen. The rest is history.

Their inspiration comes from well-worn ephemera, the geometric patterns of architecture, and things Japanese and Scandinavian.

The ladies of South Street Linen will be at ARTEFACT Home|Garden on Saturday, November 3rd from 12-5pm. Come meet and mingle, check out their extended line of lovely, hand blocked linen products ~ it’s never too early to think about your holiday table, décor…and gifts.
